About Bethesda/AbleLightThrift Shops
The first Bethesda Thrift Shop wasn’t a shop at all—it was a fundraiser in a church basement. Families in the community donated the items for sale, and the proceeds were given to Bethesda Lutheran Communities, a local nonprofit supporting adults with developmental disabilities.
Today, Bethesda/AbleLightThrift Shops are helping thousands of savvy shoppers throughout the Midwest get great deals on fab finds, with the proceeds going to support our mission. The launch of our new website in 2020 allowed us to expand our reach even further, and more stores will open in 2022 and beyond.
Bethesda/AbleLight is a national leader in providing homes and support, promoting awareness and advocating for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. For more than 116 years, we have been dedicated to enhancing the lives of the people we support and empowering them to live lives filled with choice, dignity, faith and limitless potential.
